Methods and Protocols

These methods, instrumentation and/or protocols apply to all data in this dataset:

Methods and protocols used in the collection of this data package
Description:

This section contains methods for the general project.

An initial one-year study involved establishing 20 1-m2 plots on the 24, 36 and 120 year old dunes in Nov. 1990. Half the plots were fertilized with nitrogen and half were screened to evaluate the effects of herbivory. In Nov. 1991, all aboveground vegetation was harvested and 2-cores (7cm diameter, 40 cm deep) were taken to quantify biomass. Since 1992, cover and density of all species has been monitored in 4 3x3-m N-fertilized plots and 4 control plots on the 24, 36 and 120 year old dunes. Every three years aboveground biomass is harvested from 15 0.25-m2 plots randomly located on each of the three study dunes. Hydrology is continuoulsy recorded on the dunes and swales with ground water wells.

This section contains specific methods for this dataset.

0.25 square meter clip plots were used for harvesting above-ground biomass, which was identified by species, dried and weighed. Each sampling period plots were randomly chosen in the vicinity of the fertilization experiment plots (VCR99065).

This section contains taxonomy for this dataset.
